Project SHINE is a national service-learning initiative that engages college students and older immigrants in service to their communities. Project SHINE supports partnerships across several stakeholder groups: students, faculty, community-based organizations and immigrant elders.
In working with these groups Project SHINE provides:
- training and orientation for students who tutor older immigrants in ESL, citizenship and health communication
- help for faculty to more effectively incorporate Project SHINE service-learning into their courses
- capacity building for our community partners to engage older immigrants
- help to older immigrants in improving their language and literacy skills and gaining access to services and benefits
It is important to note that differences exist at SHINE from site to site according to the populations that each program serves, but that each location subscribes to these core values. For more detailed information regarding specific SHINE sites please click The SHINE Consrotium.
