College Students can participate in SHINE through their courses, the Federal work study program and as volunteers. Options available vary at each institution in the SHINE consortium.
Faculty incorporate SHINE as a service-learning option into their courses and provide opportunities for students to make connections between SHINE service and academic content.
Community partners connect college students with elder immigrants, providing the opportunity for students and older immigrants to learn from and with each other, and supervise student service projects.
Older immigrants share their knowledge, wisdom and experience, contributing to the education of a college student and participating more fully in American society.
